4th week - Book of mormon

Lesson 27: All Things Denote There Is a God

Keep in mind the following statement by President Ezra Taft Benson as you study Alma 30–31:
“The Book of Mormon exposes the enemies of Christ. … The type of apostates in the Book of Mormon are similar to the type we have today. God, with his infinite foreknowledge, so molded the Book of Mormon that we might see the error and know how to combat false educational, political, religious, and philosophical concepts of our time” (“The Book of Mormon Is the Word of God,” Ensign, Jan. 1988, 3).
  • When Korihor asked for a sign of God’s existence, what signs did Alma put forth as evidence that God lives? (See Alma 30:44.) How have these evidences helped strengthen your faith?
As you study Alma 31, contrast the Zoramites’ prayer with Alma’s prayer. You may want to note the differences you find.

Suggestion for Family Discussion

Explain that ideas similar to Korihor’s teachings are sometimes presented by people today. Then discuss the following questions:
  • What can we do to withstand the influence of people who try to destroy our faith? (Answers may include that we can study the scriptures; pray; avoid contention; and talk with parents, the bishop, or other trusted friends.)

3rd wk RS Announcements

The Pioneer Day Celebration is this coming Saturday, July 21st.  It is from 4:00 - 6:30 PM at Osage Station Park in Danville.  Remember if you have signed up to bring food, and feel free to invite friends!

The Interfaith Community Blood Drive is continuing through the month of July.  The Oakland Stake has arranged for the Red Cross to come to the Interstake Center on July 27 & 28 and to the Moraga Chapel on July 31.  We are encouraged to sign up to donate on those days and at those locations so as to not waste the time of the Red Cross; currently the appointments are only half filled.  If those days don't work, please donate at the Pleasant Hill Red Cross and be sure to tell them you are a part of the Interfaith Community Blood Drive.

Visiting Teaching Interviews are currently being held on Sundays.  Remember if you have signed up!  You will be receiving a reminder call on Saturday.

Have a great week!
